Making Her Day Special
It’s the season of celebrating Mom… everywhere we look we see gift ideas. Everything about May acknowledges Mothers from all walks of life. They are the special people in our lives who encourage us when we feel at our lowest in life. It seems that no matter where we go or what we do…. Mom is always right there. She is the one who gets us better than anyone, and for this reason, celebrating Mom needs extra attention.
How do you celebrate someone who seems to have everything? Flowers just die and all she has is a memory or a photo. Knick knacks are cute and they will forever be on display…collecting dust! What is it that she wants more than anything? What will make her smile the most and know that she is loved?
Here are 3 ways that you can celebrate your mom!
The gift of a family dinner
Even though this may seem overdone, it is one of the best things to do for Mom on Mother’s Day. There is nothing more a mother enjoys than having her family around her. A wonderful dinner that she doesn’t have to prepare is the topping on the cake!!
Choose a menu of HER favorite items… and then let her enjoy the grandchildren as you prepare dinner. This gives her time to just sit and watch you do the things that she once did for you!

The gift of a getaway
There are two ways you can give your Mom a weekend of her favorite things.
If you are able to go with her, then take her on a weekend getaway. Take her somewhere that she would choose just for herself. Let her be the center of the itinerary.
The other option is to make the arrangements, pay for the room, and let her choose if she goes alone, with Dad, or with the whole family. She may even choose to go with a close friend for a girls’ weekend. Either way, this is sure to put a smile on her face as she gears up for a weekend of nothing but her favorite things.
Here are some ideas for weekend getaways.
- A weekend for two in the country at a bed and breakfast.
- A weekend on the lake in an RV or cabin.
- A weekend in the city.
The gift of a home movie
One of the most unique things you can give your Mother on her special day is a home movie of her family. There was a time, before today’s technology when home movies were the thing to give. Every holiday you would see huge camcorders making their way through the crowds. These movies were cherished by moms for ages to come.
Since technology is so much different you can create a home movie with a mixture of videos and photos. You can create more than one in less time than before. A home movie of her children and grandchildren is sure to bring her a sense of purpose and love. When she sees them.. she knows what it is to love.
Here are some various ideas for home movies:
- A movie of her and Dad throughout life made with old photos.
- A movie of her and each child.
- A movie of each grandchild.
These are the top 3 on my list of favorite gifts for Mother’s Day…there are other great activities that you can do when you are celebrating Mom in a way that is unique to her. The main thing to remember is… She wants time with you. She wants to be present in your life like she did when she was making your day special.
Celebrating Mom isn’t about what’s easy for you…it’s about how to make her feel special.
